The concept of Students’ GREEN conference presented at the 1st Nordic Food Forum

On 21-22 September 2022, the 1st Nordic Food Forum was organised in Trondheim by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The Forum gathered the most prominent Nordic scientists and experts in the field of nutrition and food technology, as well as small and large food producers, educators and marketing experts who exchanged knowledge and findings, presented innovations, ideas and trends to be followed by all European stakeholders within the chain From Field to Table in order to adjust their business and production processes to the EU GREEN Deal and to respond to the challenges of increased world population, reduced natural resources for food production, and the climate, energy and security crisis.

The Nordic Food Forum aims to facilitate the networking of academic community, food industry, entrepreneurs and local community in order to determine new direction and strategy for sustainable food production. Bioeconomy, sustainable agriculture, creating healthy dietary habits from preschool age, improving the nutritional properties of various food products, growing artificial meat in laboratories, breeding insects and using them as a source of protein, problems of ecological sustainability of today’s agrarian policies were some of the topics discussed at the Forum. The network of Nordic scientific and educational institutions, large and small food producers and decision makers shall profile itself into a global leader in innovation and implementation of new directions in food production. Being invited by the president of the Organising Committee, Prof. Dr. Eva Falch, Prof. Dr. Mirna Habuda-Stanić from the Faculty of Food Technology Osijek participated in the 1st Nordic Food Forum by presenting the idea and concept of the International Student GREEN Conference as the first multidisciplinary conference intended for students of all scientific disciplines. In her lecture, Professor Habuda-Stanić presented the process of devising the conference and motivating student for participation, as well as the challenges of the multidisciplinary gathering of students. Professor Habuda-Stanić’s presentation was of interest for Scandinavian professors and students, who expressed their wish to visit Osijek in 2024 and to actively participate in the 3rd International Students’ GREEN Conference by presenting their knowledge and skills.
